Buying a Chinese mobile phone

It's good to buy a mobile phone in Asia, so that you can receive (and write) Chinese text messages.

My advice.

Buy in HK or Singapore if you can, for english speaking salespersons. Buy in HK because of cheaper tax.

Avoid nokia, because it seems you can only write chinese text messages if your phone is in Chinese mode. I know for example that with Samsung you can still write chinese text messages whilst in 'English' mode. There's a bit of danger in being in 'chinese' mode when you get into a panic - danger of deleting your contacts, SMS messages by accident, that kind of thing.

Also, get a speakerphone option. Useful for when you're trying to navigate chinese automated telephone menus with a friend.

Getting a built in camera is useful for remembering who all those people with their chinese names are.....

True?
As far as I know, it's easy to change input mode by "#" on keyboard.:)

I like nokia:D The most use-friendly one!! Though it's colour-screen is not as beautiful as others.

Hi, yup you're right, the more expensive nokias are better on the language front. I think they have just made their cheap telephone terrible, to encourage people to spend more money on more expensive phones!

In English menu mode, the top Nokia can still write Chinese text messages. And in Chinese mode, it can still write predictive English text.

I wanna find out next if it can take photos of people in the address book easily, so that I can remember who is who in my address book.... Especially when I am recording Chinese names for colleagues and clients as well as friends, it is getting difficult!
