lovely weather -> freak thunderstorm!
Generally the weather here has been superb. Reasonably cool, not too hot. The kind of weather where I don’t have to turn on a/c at night. Brilliant. The last couple of days have been warmer though, and yesterday afternoon, all of a sudden the heavens opened up and it rained for the whole afternoon. Quite horrific stuff, heavy rain and thunder. I’m gonna have to start bringing an umbrella to work. Other than getting stranded in the office, it also limits lunch choices – I’m about to go out for lunch, and the weather’s fine but some clouds look a little mean.
Tell you what I need…. I need a small umbrella to permanently leave in my laptop bag. Thing is, I don’t bother with the 5 kuai / 10 kuai types, because they just fall apart when there’s strong winds, in which case it’s not much good to me anyway. I need a small but strong umbrella. I carry a small umbrella around, both summer (sun) and winter (rain), and I find it incredibly useful. I picked up an RMB 50 umbrella at UNIQLO that has great water resistance, and is not micro-small but still only about 8 inches long.
There are several UNIQLOs in Shanghai. The one I got to is across the street from the Huangpi Rd metro stop.
yeah the cheap umbrellas are really no good. Mine fell apart apart only a few hours in the rain and wind. I'm looking for a good umbrella now.
