A leading Chinese auto-parts company realized its first loss ever and needed help turning around its operations.
McKinsey studied the company's current performance along the value chain and benchmarked it against industry best practices. We identified cost-cutting opportunities and growth potential, and scoped overall performance improvement. We also identified near-term (6 months) and mid-term (18 months) performance improvement measures, designed a change program for capturing potential, conducted a pilot in northern China to boost short term sales performance, and conducted a de-bottlenecking program at two plants.
The project delivered specific, sustainable value to the client through performance improvement (sourcing, manufacturing/de-bottlenecking in manufacturing, and marketing). Sales in the pilot jumped more than 20 percent just four months following launch. National sales jumped 13 percent in the first year of implementation.
